Seattle DJC: Skagit Valley College plans a new campus ‘front door'
On the boards in Mount Vernon, Washington is the new Skagit Valley College Culinary Arts & Library Commons! Take a first look at the project as featured by the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce.
The 39,174-square-foot building "will become the new home for the college's culinary arts, library and tutoring departments, replacing SVC's existing Norwood Cole Library and Administrative Annex and a 111-stall parking lot. The single-story building was designed to serve as a gateway to campus, welcoming students with primary entry points to help them navigate [...] The design includes a new library, a tutoring center and community gathering spaces, as well as up-to-date equipment and laboratory space for the culinary arts program [...] The building was also designed to be open and connect to the surrounding area, reflecting the Skagit Valley's agrarian landscape and community in its layout and palette," writes Shawna Gamache, Seattle DJC.
“One of the coolest things about this project is the college leadership set up a really clear vision that it was to be a new front door to campus for students. It sets up primary entry points so students can navigate the building, and they can know where to go next," says Sienna Shiga, Associate Principal at Hacker.
Currently in the fundraising phase, stay tuned for more project updates.
