Born in Shanghai, China, Yi witnessed rapid urban growth and architectural innovations as she grew up. This early experience influenced her academic research, focused on urbanism and its relationship to individuals. Practicing in Oregon, California and Nevada, Yi continues to grow her sustainability awareness, especially in the areas of biophilic design and healthy materials.

She draws her design inspirations from a place’s history, people, and urban formation. She is devoted to creating spaces that inform the past yet gives potential for its organic future growth. Yi also participates actively and reflectively in architecture school juries and local art and education volunteer programs.
